Any of you diehard Kline owners ever try a GFI? My Kline is aging faster than me and has been reconditioned twice by Joe. I am thinking of getting a new Universal Keyless and seriously looking at trying out the GFI. After reading many threads, I'm not concerned at all about the staying in tune part. One of my only major concerns is the "B" pedal ease. I have not sat down at a steel yet that pulls 3 G#'s that was easy or at least, comfortable for long periods of time. I am hoping that the GFI will change my opinion and finally put an end to this. I would love to hear any feedback on this.

Try an Excel Superb. It has raise assist springs that can be adjusted just like lower return springs and can make the pedals as easy as you want. Plus it's keyless has 6 raise/5 lower and has lots of other cool features. Stays in tune too. |

BJ Cole is a hard core Kline U12 guy and he is happy with his Williams guitar now. They have quite a few of the same caracturistics. Good looking too.

I just sold one of my Klines and Lamar Colvin is building me a guitar with his new straight pull keyless design. The one I played was fantastic,,,and I AM a die hard Kline player. The other Lamar I owned had had all the Lamar mechanism pulled out and replaced with Pedalmaster parts (which I understand are shared with GFI) by Roy Thomas,,,it was a beautiful guitar,,,and has been owned by several people since I owned it,,,but very stiff action,,,,and VERY unlike a typical Lamar guitar,,,, |

Well,,,, I have a Kline U-12, and a GFI D-10. The GFI is a fine guitar! The Kline blows it out of the water! I haven't played some of the other guitars mentioned, but I do have the two guitars in question for comparison. But, it's only my oppinion, as there are many very fine guitars being made today. I would love to try a Lamar. |

I have to agree with Michael J..... The Excel excels in a LOT of area's over other pedal steels .... There are so many things that are adjustable on this steel , and the action of the knee's and foot pedals are the easiest of any pedal steel I have ever played ... Funny , there are so many other features that are simply wonderful about the Excel , that I never even gave the pedal and knee lever action a thought , but now that I think of it , this could also be just one more reason that my Excel plays easier than any steel I have ever owned ....It's also custom made to MY specifications .....How many companies give you that option ? ....Jim |
