Damir, The "Spirit Steel" was on the move. It moved from your house to Jim Cohen's house, then to my house, then it came to a screeching halt at Steve Robinson's house. I believe it has found it's permanet resting place!! I believe Jim C. and I feel the same way you do!! In fact, ya'll begged me not to sell it, but the guitar was not what I envisioned as "the guitar" for me.
The tone on this guitar is somewhat shobud and somewhat emmons. It also playes just beautiful. The fact that it's probably the most beautiful guitar on the planet is undisputed. But that's just my opinion. Steve just LOVES this guitar! |

Steve Robinson, the guy who fixes shuttles in outer space for a living? He sort of deserves to have a nice guitar to come home to, don't you think? |

I had to sell this and Emmons fat back with a great tone 100% restored by SGN,looked like new underneath..because I needed cash for my business..I didn`t sell because I wanted to,I sold it because I HAD to..and later when JC asked me if I wanted to buy it back I didn`t have cash ready.Guitar has Sho~Bud/Emmons pp tone big time,it is right in the middle.Very nice and interesting tone. Not modern mechanics "new age" steel but beautiful example of a great vintage steel guitar.

Oh yes; I remember this "spirit steel" like it was yesterday when you originally sent it to me Damir. I remember just how difficult it was going to be for me to make it what it is and what you wanted and also the connection to Leonard Stadler it had and I had(God rest his soul).
About Leonard I wrote:
quote: This is the finest guitar that Leonard Stadler ever made....and I just restored it to the best work of Art that I've ever done.....to date. I spent countless hours on this as my tribute the the late great Leonard Stadler....as he was a tremendous man and friend...and he made some great guitars and he made some ok guitars.....but this one is truly his finest hour......and I restored this one knowing he is looking down on me and seeing that I want to carry on his great tradition and keep him living through his pieces of history.....and when you see this you will know...that kid gloves were on the whole time....to preserve this Marlen and for Leonard to see it as he looks down....and smiles a big one for us.
-- Ricky Davis
So I'll certainly never forget what this particular Marlen meant for me and to all you guys that got to have it in your life; even for a little while.
I wish you guys could of seen the look on Steve's face when he came up to my house to play it and see it and pick it up; when it came through here again from James...
Steve was like a school boy in a candy shop; I'll never forget that look.

I read that Steve has your ex-steel and doesn't want to sell it, but above Farris says he has one just like it. [This message was edited by Jim Phelps on 03 July 2006 at 05:29 PM.] |
