Does anyone know what kind of speaker this is? 15", 5" round magnet 3/4" thick. And is the reason this 130 special is so loud because the speaker is an 8 ohm and not 4 and will that blow up the amp? Thanks |

Should be no problem with running the 8 ohm speaker in a 4 ohm amp...volume difference should not very much if any at all.
Amp will run cooler or easier with the 8 ohm
load. I am no expert. Learned this here on the Forum...

This little 130 sounds so good now that is dialed in, is light weight compared to the Hotrod Deluxe I was using and is on wheels but I was concerned about the 8 ohms vs 4 ohm thing. Sure didn't want to blow up anything. Good to know I can go on steeling unimpeded! Double pun intended |

Most SS amps the ohm rating is the minimum. Unlike tube amps, there needs to be no load on the output. |

I thought that these amps came with a 12 inch speaker.
Am I mistaken?
Was there a 15 inch option?
Did you actually measure it? |

Ajm, you are correct. I put the 130 head in a Artist case because of the 15 and wheels |

George, is there any visible stamping on the speaker magnet or frame? For what it's worth, my 130 had a 16 ohm speaker in it when I bought it used. I switched to a TC Furlong 12 inch 8 ohm and now a Travis Toy Eminence 12 inch 8 ohm. I play the crap out of it with no issues. |

Larry, I have a Special 130 and thinking about loading a TC Furlong 12 in it. Just wondering if you could comment on how that sounded compared to the Travis Toy 12? |

Tommy, I really believe I liked the TC Furlong 12 better. I was planning on building a cabinet the same dimensions and doing a comparison, but I've yet to get to it. With the TT I couldn't get rid of the harsh mids until I put a Peavey Rack tube preamp in front of it. The TC did fine without it. |

Thanks Larry. I have 2 of the TC 12s, one will go in the amp and the other in a matching extension cab. |

Hopefully upon closer inspection I can find some markings but I recently came across another Peavey (I'm thinking Reno) with the speaker out of it. I believe that's where that speaker originated. |

This model is rated to produce 120 watts into its original 4 ohm speaker. |

And...the output would likely be measurably less with an 8-ohm speaker. But, it would still be loud, as any amp in the 100-watt category is supposed to be!
Never worry about your amp being too loud. Worry about the other guy's amp being too loud. |

Thanks for all the input.
Funny about the other guys amp as they have me 5ft away from the mains and subs so I needed an amp with a ton of headroom and was totally blown away by the volume of this little amp! George Jones by George |
