Here's a very interesting and odd looking steel guitar on the Goodwill Auction site.

Hopefully someone may provide some insite about this instrument. The description makes it sound like a one man band.

The guitar is a Harlin Brothers Multicord.
However, I never saw one with all the "stuff" attached on the back. Looks like someone designed their own custom made beast, complete with effects and a built in rhythm unit... Not an outfit I'd bid big bucks to buy!

Wow! What a rig. Everything about that console seems to say "cheesy effects" but still....
Note to anyone who may be tempted--it's for pickup only, Indy area.

Anyone playing this one has no right to get mad if people think they're playing a keyboard.

I think they would also give up all rights to laugh at anyone else.

Is that an 8-track player on that thing or the drum machine?

It's a drum machine. What it looks like to me is someone cobbled together all this stuff to play for their own amusement at home, using an old organ cabinet or something to house it - kind of like a steel guitar version of the infamous "Harmony Chord" organs.

Never ceased to be amazed at what folks come up with to be attached to steel guitars.

I bet that someone had this rig to gig with somehow with the rhythm machine and effects and the legs and back giving it a keyboard look. Actually a pretty good idea at the time it was probably done when all that was availiable were those crazy drum machines with rumbas and such. Wish it was close by.

Years and years ago, the first 'steel' player I ever saw was playing something like this, but with a 3-neck fender. He had a cheesy rhythm machine, a Fender Reverb unit, and it sounded like one of those old Wurlitzer Organs that my aunt used to play, and he even played some of the same songs. I distinctly remmeber 'Sidewalks of New York".

You could munch their minds at the old folk's home with that baby, man. They say it needs new strings, so I'm out of the bidding.
