Hi all,
As an offshoot to the Bandit 65 thread recently, I thought I would ask you all as a new topic this query.
Is there anything to be gained by removing the magnet off an old scorpion speaker and cleaning the voice coil slot.As far as I know the speaker is ok but over years would dirt/ dust ingress cause lack of fidelity. My recently aquired ,well sounding ,Bandit 65 solo has the scorpion fitted and just wondered if it would benefit from this.

I wouldn't work on it unless you're hearing a problem. If it sounds fine, as you say it does, there's little or nothing to be gained. It's only when there is obvious distortion that you need to attempt a fix. |

Sometimes the original foam insert/cover disintegrates, and can cause particles to get in there.
I have read of Forum folks cutting a piece of the round cardboard insert from paper-towel roll, wrap a piece of double sided scotch tape so it covers both sides, and carefully work it in/around the slot, to get the particles out. |

No, it doesn't effect the sound(unless you hear some debris jumping around in the gap of the magnet). The best method is with a high pressure air nozzle. |

Look at the videos on youtube.com illustrating this method. |

What's difficult to get out is metal dust as you're dealing with a magnet with a very narrow crevice.
As mentioned, if you don't hear anything making rice krispy noises, best to leave it alone. _________________ ShoBud The Pro 1
