Not sure about placement in that guitar, but the circuit would be simple. You could even use a push/pull pot to disengage it from the signal path.
If you don't want to drill any holes, you could build a tone control into a pedal - I did this once for a regular guitar I had that didn't have a tone control _________________ GFI S-10 P U, Moyo Volume, Fender Steel King, Fender 5F4 Super-Amp |

Here's how you wire it.
If your pickup os not a humbucker, just pay attention to the hot (black) and ground (green) wires, although the colors on your pickup may be white (hot) and black (ground) or something else.
For most steel pickups I'd use a 500k pot and a .047 or .5uf polyester capacitor. The brand of cap isn;'t very important, as it's a passive component - all it does is *remove* treble from the circuit. I don't like ceramic disc caps only because they are brittle.
It would also be a good idea to run a ground wire to the back of the pot from a screw somewhere attached to the changer - a string ground. Helps reduce extraneous noises.
Hope this helps!

I would just add a Goodrich "Match Box".
That's what I do.
Then you have a volume and tone control right at your finger tips.
