Steve Howe playing pedal steel?
(go to 3:06 and 3:32)
I saw him playing a Fender Stringmaster once, but had never seen him on a Sho~Bud pedal steel.

Mashin' the ol' A&B pedals.... and he's standing up! Looked like it was up on a little riser. Must be a workout for the left ankle like that! Thanks Donny... I'd never seen him on a pedal guitar either. _________________ MCI Arlington S-10 3+5, George L E-66, BJS & Emmons bars, Fender Stage Lead II 100W 1x12, Fender Satellite SFX, custom FX rack, 1983 Dobro 60D, Martin D16GT, Ibanez AS73, 1978 Rickenbacker 4000 custom. |

I've been into Yes since '74 and saw them on their '76, '77, '78, '80 and '91 tours.
Steve began using the Fender Stringmaster on the '72 album "Close to the Edge" (specifically on the song "And You And I") and regularly brought that on tour ever since. On the '74 album, "Relayer" he played the ShoBud on the song "To Be Over" and brought that with him on the '74 through '75 tour (which he played standing up, but only for the short solo on "To Be Over"). They dropped the song from their live set after that and he left the ShoBud at home.
He has used it on a few of his solo albums and a little on the intro to the '77 Yes song, "Awaken". While the band has played Awaken on several tours, he played the intro on a Rickenbacker 360 (at least he did on the '77 tour) and has never brought the ShoBud out with him again that I know of ![Winking](images/smiles/icon_winking.gif) _________________ Hear my latest album, "Celestial" featuring a combination of Mullen SD12 and Synthesizers:

I always loved the steel guitar on "Soon", the last movement of Gates of Delirium on Relayer.

Just found this live one...yeah, must be the Shobud (I assumed it was a Stringmaster, previously, given his use of it on And You and I).

Steve was my intro to steel guitar (having never been into country, and only recently been thoroughly hooked by Hawaiian). _________________ Waikīkī, at night when the shadows are falling

Cool. Ya, he needed the ShoBud on the '75 tour to play "To Be Over" which requires some pedal mashing, I didn't remember noticing him use it on "Soon" 'till I saw the video you linked. Every tour I saw where they played "Gates of Delirium" or just the "Soon" excerpt he played it on the StringMaster.
I noticed in the '75 clip you linked that the ShoBud only had the ABC pedals connected and he played "Soon" on the front neck. Also found the clip of "And You And I" from the same show and he's playing the StringMaster slide part on the front neck of the ShoBud! Just guessing, but maybe he had the front ShoBud neck tuned the same as the StringMaster neck he normally used for "Soon" & "And You And I" and left the StringMaster home for this tour? _________________ Hear my latest album, "Celestial" featuring a combination of Mullen SD12 and Synthesizers:
