Craig,
That's what pak seats are for, 3rd strings. Any .010, .011 or whatever your preference, will do. Got to be a Music Store nearby. Now, if you were near Dallas, I'd run right over.
Now you know. Spare 3rd strings are as important as a bar and picks. And the problem is that the string can be lethal if it breaks while tuning or playing.

Yes I could only fit so much stuff in my military vehicle..... no room for pack seat

When my wife and I lived in Littleton, Colorado I kept breaking my 3rd string. I was playing for our church dedication.
I deleted all the sources for strings in the Denver area and would put putting a banjo string on, the one for the 5th string.
Any post in a storm!
