I'm curious if it is normal for a case for an Emmons D-10 push-pull to have a completely flat bottom, with no blocks or pieces to support the guitar. My Sho-Bud case has little blocks that the edge of the body rests on, and this keeps the guitar from fully resting on the bottom of the case. My Emmons case, however, has no pieces to support the guitar, so the guitar is resting on the tuners and the changers when it's in the case. There are holes that are worn down to the wood under the changers, and I have a bent tuning shaft that may be from the guitar resting on the tuners. Is this normal for an Emmons style casel? Is this considered all right? It seems like it can't be too good for the guitar to be carried this way.

Cliff, my Emmons case has felt covered blocks at both ends of the case that keep the guitar from resting on the tunings keys, etc. You might want to invest in a new case for that custom p/p you just got. Or at least have some felt covered blocks made and glue them in there.
I can give you the measurements of those blocks from my case if you need them.

My Emmons PP case did have blocks for the guitar to sit on. My 81 Franklin only has a 1" foam pad (covered) that it sits on. It's 25 years old and there has never been any damage to any part of the guitar. I was aprehensive at first since it didn't have the blocks but as it turns out nothing has ever happened to it. Mr. Franklin said that his experience at Sho-Bud with both types of cases and Sho-Bud having less damage problems with the pad convinced him to have his cases made that way.

However, if there is no pad at all and your just sitting on the solid bottom (with a covering material) there could be potential for damage.

I have always had blocks on the two Emmons.
The case I hate ,the Mullen comes in. It is a soft material. When I sent it back to the factory,it collected every piece of metal shaving it could.
I wonder how My new Jackson guitar will fit, and what kind of case. I forgot to ask when I ordered.I know it has wheels though!

Cliff..

I have a late 60's Emmons and its case is the same way -- no blocks with the guitar sitting on the tuning pegs. I asked a friend about it and he doesn't recall whether they came that way or not. When I return back to the states the first thing I will be doing is getting a new case for the guitar. If fact I will probably get two cases and separate the guitar from the legs, rods, and pedal board..

My early 71 PP (S/N 1464D) came with a "blocked" case. So it's earlier than 72.

Cliff, I have a 75 PP with the original case. The bottom of the case is flat. There are no blocks to support the guitar.

It seems like I’ve got a stock Emmons case, but it seems that it would be better to have something between the tuners and changers, and the bottom of the case. You guys who have these flat bottomed cases, what do you think, have you had problems because of this type of case? Maybe a sheet of close-cell foam on the bottom would help.

My 75 PP came with a "flat bottom" case.
I use a 3/4" high density foam pad in it.

Just to add to my post about my 71. It was ordered in March 71 and delivered in April of 71 in a case with blocks.

I worked at Little Roy Wiggin's Music City music store in Nashville in late 71/72. Little Roy's was the Nashville dealer for Emmons guitars and all that we had or got in, came with cases with blocks (the picture of Buddy and Ron Elliott that is on the back of the "Black" Album was taken in front of Little Roy's Store).

Like Bobby said .I also have a 67 PP D-10 it came with a rounded corners more like a suit case, I also have a 67's S-10 PP that has the same case just smaller.
The case has a Bright Yellow material inside.
I think it was the custom case very light.
This was not a Thomas case like my LeGrande II.
