I'm watching a concert of Sheryl Crow on AXS TV. She has a psg player that doubles on guitar, keyboards, and backup vocals. He plays a red Sho-Bud Pro 1. Shoulder length hair. Concert was 10/2018.
Any idea who it might be? _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Playing for 54 years and still counting.

Never mind. The credits listed the band members. It's Josh Grange. Good player. Great gig to have. I love Sheryl. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . He used to post here some time ago.
He plays on this song by the great Tony Gilkyson:

So if you cut through the crap (pun intended) she is saying that country music fans are the cleanest people on the planet. I can live with that. |

Hello and thank you Richard, Joachim, b0b and Joe.
Sheryl is a wonderfully kind, talented and generous person, as well as a dedicated mother to her sons, and I am extremely fortunate to get to make music with her. She is a class act, and we certainly have our share of adventures!
One small story I'll share from last year: We were opening for James Taylor, at the Hollywood Bowl, covering for Bonnie Raitt for a few shows. The night before, Joni Mitchell had attended the concert and then hung out back stage well into the night. It was such a thrill to see her there in the flesh!
The next day at our soundcheck, James came onstage to check his mic for Winding Road, since he would join us for that song. Let me tell you, that man turns any song into a James Taylor song! His phrasing is singular.
He approached me and asked how I came to play steel and mentioned how fond he was of the instrument. During our conversation, I asked him if he had ever tried to play it himself. He said that Dan Dugmore at one point kept a steel at his house, and that he might have plunked away a bit on it, but never got too far into it. He then asked if I knew a chord, where you play the 5 major triad over the root major triad (giving you a pretty Maj 9th).
At this point our soundcheck had ground to a halt. I played him the chord and said that it sounded very nice moved up in minor thirds, and played that for him. Well, it bears a slight resemblance to Help Me, by Joni Mitchell, and as James said "Hey did you catch Joni last night?", Sheryl appeared suddenly over my shoulder and started singing "Help Me...." as James joined in, and we played a little short, impromptu version on a beautiful sunny Southern California day there in the hills of Hollywood.
I bought that Pro-1 from my favorite steel player, Greg Leisz, about 15 years ago. Before that, I used the Maverick in the video Joe posted, and I must say, I've always loved the tone of it, even more than the Pro-1.
Here's a picture from that moment at the Bowl....
Good times!!!!
