Hello lap and console steel players.
If you love that old time tone and you love the old vintage steels you should have a vintage amp to go with it.
An early 1940's Epiphone Electar Zephyr Amp is for sale on the Forum page "For Sale: Amps and Accessories"
https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=344109
It just so happens that I'm the one selling this so I know just how good it sounds.
Bought it about 8 months ago to use with my Clinesmith Aluminum JM Model 8 string lap steel, my Clinesmith T-8 and my Mid 50's Blankenship that I have been restoring as well as my other lap steels.
I was not getting the "Right Tone" for them with my Peavey 112 and other amps. Did get a decent tone with my little Danelectro, but not perfect like the Epiphone Electar Zephyr....
Now that I got the Webb amp working well it is able to get that long lost tone for these as well as for my modern PSG's so I no longer need the Epiphone Electar Zephyr.
If your also feeling like something missing you should check this one out.
Many more photos posted there as well as details too.
Best wishes,

Andy, I will post here rather than clutter up your advert. But wow! Interesting amp! I've read about these a bit, including, I think, your posts when you bought it. I also love that classic tone that Juaquin and Jules, among others, got out of their lap steels.
I bought a Milkman "The Amp" to have something I could fly with when I loaded up my stuff and came back to the Philippines. I can get a tone I like with it by turning the treble up about 3/4s, the bass down to about 1/4, little or no reverb, and turn the gain up. That's through a Telonics 12". I wonder if a good 10" might get even closer, but I'm happy for now. the lap steel I use is a Fender Deluxe with the trapezoid pickups.
I'm sure the Zephyr could nail the classic tone down - it's what that tone comes from! But I lack knowledge on old tube amps to want to inherit that project. I'm sure someone will want to snatch it though. It's the real deal!
Good luck with the sale. _________________ Bringing steel guitar to the bukid of Negros Oriental! |

Hi Douglas,
Yes the Epiphone is strong & full in the mid range.
Only has two controls. Volume & Tone.
Right about it having the sound that was achieved by all the old greats like Joaquin Murphy and Django, but that alone won't give you or anyone their skill and talent.
Much as I love it, I don't have anywhere near their talent or inventiveness.
The amp will not make poor playing good, but it will make good playing sound better.
Being so close, have you ever come here it Viet Nam?
I love SE Asia for the friendly people and diverse cultures of each country.
However, I never forget that I'm an American.
Best wishes,

Andy, I have thought about visiting Vietnam - I have a friend who runs some Air BnB's in Saigon that I could stay at. And another friend back in the Virgin Islands who has talked about coming to visit here, then going to Vietnam and Cambodia. It's a possibility, but to be honest, I'm a terrible traveler when it comes to buses, planes, hotels, and restaurants. I loved sailing all over on my sailboat - but then I could see the world and never leave home! I had my own kitchen, my own bed, my own bathroom, my own bookshelf of books - but could go almost anywhere there was deep water. The thought of lugging a backpack around through bus terminals, hunting up hotel rooms, etc - that was great when I was in my 20's and bumming around Mexico and Central America. But now, I like sitting here in my small house with the mountains in view out the window, my steel in the spare bedroom, and my dogs on the porch. So don't hold your breath, but maybe I will make it there someday! _________________ Bringing steel guitar to the bukid of Negros Oriental! |

Hi Douglas,
Understand, but dump the backpack for a carryon with wheels. So much more easy.
Here they call the backpackers "Tay ba lo" which translates to "Western back pack" and it's a derogatory term for people trecking around in tropical heat with huge weights on their back looking like poor folks!
Thailand is more fun than Cambodia and it's only a tad over an hours flight from Saigon. Cheap tickets all the time at under $100.00 round trip or half that one way.
