Sort of … I always use a Boss LMB-3 as buffer – before VP. |

I used one to begin with because as an ex-engineer I figured the steel, like most instruments, would sound better working into one. But it didn't help my playing so I don't bother any more and I feel better without it. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Buddy Emmons used an MXR, I believe. For certain jobs I use one of these. You can blend compressed and dry signals, which is very nice.

I really like the Ego compressor for steel. Mine is doing more boosting than compressing, but it does bring the quieter stuff forward (without any audible squash).
I've had a lot of fx pedals, and the Ego is only one that I feel like I need to have in my chain. I guess I've just gotten used to the response of it and having a volume/boost control at my fingertips. |

Georg Sortun turned me on to the Boss LMB-3 bass compressor/limiter. I use mine after the VP and set it to add a mild boost and a bit of top end. Cool pedal. |

I have been playing with my MXR Dyna-Comp lately. I also have the Wampler EGO. I would love to know if Lloyd ever used compression live and/or in the studio. I have an album with him on it live from 1977 and his guitar sounds compressed to my ear, lightly so, but compressed. Could have been done in the Mix session. I like compression on Steel, lightly used, myself. The MXR dampens the highs a bit.
