I have a line 6 amp with 2 12in. speakers and 2 tweeters. I'm not happy with tweeters playing my steel through it so I'm wondering if some of you electronics people in the forum would know if I just disconnect the tweeters if that would harm the amp any at all? Thanks Steve

Are those piezo tweeters?

You can also try putting some foam over the tweeters to attenuate the tweeters acting as a beam blocker without disconnecting them.

As long as the wires are individually taped up so there's no chance of them coming together, or coming into contact with anything else, you should be okay. Because tweeters only operate in the highest frequencies, their impedance and loading on the amp are fairly insignificant.

A Line 6 amp?
What model of Line 6 amp?
It would help to know a little more detail.

Some of them have the tweeters as a part of the speaker, so they may not be able to be disconnected.

It's also possible that the tweeters may not be the problem, but rather your tone settings.

I really don't know what kind of tweeters they are but I do know that they are separate speakers up in the corners of the amp. As far as the tonal settings I can set the bass up full and the mid and the treble down which is fine but everything is to bassy when I do that. I can't even hear my upper G# string when I do that. The amp is a Line 6 spider v 240. This thing has over a 100 different settings but none of them take out the over powering tweeters. If I can disconnect the tweeters then I would be able to bring up the mids and treble. Thanks everybody.

You could also try using a long cable from the guitar to the volume pedal to tame the highs. Of course, if you're getting too many highs, it goes without saying that you don't want to use things that tend to boost your highs...like a buffer, a powered volume pedal, or George-L cables.

The "100 settings or amp models" is just smoke and mirrors when it comes to clean sounds. That stuff may be good for mimicking distortion characteristics, but it's pretty lame for sculpting clean tones.

Your probably right about the smoke a mirrors so I think I'll just try and disconnect the 2 tweeters & tape up the wires so they don't short out against anything & see what happens.
