I will be in the Los Angeles area next week from March 19 - 26. I’m excited that Gary Brandin will be at Clifton’s on the 21st. Otherwise if anyone has any tips on who or where to hear the lap steel, or stores that may carry interesting old lap steels, I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks!

To visit Asher, which is located in a large basement at Bill and Jessica's home, you need to call well ahead of time and make an appointment. The mailing address for his business is not the actual location, which I found out firsthand a while back.

If you can block out some time to get down to Oceanside in north San Diego County, it's well worth your effort to visit Jim at Steel Guitars of North County.

It's about 85 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Folk Music Center is mentioned above - if you're able to make it there, it's another 25 miles or so to Fender in Corona. The factory tour is very worthwhile. In the front of the building along with being able to play a whole bunch of different new guitars, there is a museum. You can't buy them, but along with all the vintage standard electrics there are some steel guitars on display.

Norman's Rare Guitars in Tarzana, just north of LA, is showing 2 lap steels on their website. An Epiphone 1939 vintage and a Rickenbacker (year unknown).

The city of Tarzana was named after the fictional character Tarzan because Edgar Rice Burroughs owned a large ranch in the area.
