Aloha. I just spent some time in Honolulu and saw one of my favorite bands Maunalua at Dukes in Waikiki. After the gig I asked Bobby, the lead slack key guitar player what his tunings were. One was C6 on a regular acoustic guitar.
I'm about to string my Strat with C6 strings and approach it with finger picking and flat picking styles, and no slide. I was wondering if I would get any input from the musicians on here. My hope is that if I start playing in C6 on regular guitar (I play a lot of songs in open G), that it might free up my thinking as far as improvisational skills on the lap steel. Plus, Bobby had some great slack key sounds with it.
My first line of business will be to establish the major pentatonic scale. I'm planning on contacting Troy Brenningmeyer for maybe getting a chart. Also messaged Bobby on FB to start a correspondence and possibly getting some skype instructions.
As a general topic, any thoughts from you guys?

Since there are several versions of C6 tuning, did Bobby share with you the one he uses, low to high or bass to treble? _________________ Mark |
