Any of you fellas have the tab for the intro of this Vern Gosdin tune?
My band is playing it and I can't seem to nail it.
Thanks

Settle for a Mickey Adams video?
Tune 10 down so that the A pedal takes it to A (not quite F# open) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_nhBowCW2lI _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects |

years ago my friend pete dollard wondered how to play this intro. even though he had never met jim vest, he called him up and asked how to play it. jim vest was so cool he took the time to explain to pete how to tune the low string and how to play the lick...all over the phone!
i met jim at a joe stampley gig once and we hit it off pretty well. he's just a nice right on guy....and great player! |

That's really a cool kickoff and we do the song quit often at dances. Instead of taking time to tune down bottom string, I just resolve it at first fret with E's raised and pump A pedal. We do it in D chord. Of course you don't get that drone earlier in kick off but nobody will notice, that is unless there's another steel player in audience, LOL
Here's the other Vern Gosden cool kick off if anyone interested:

I keep my Peterson Stroboflip hooked up at all times so it is very easy to quickly tune the 10th string down. I tune it to A with the pedals engaged which puts the open 10th string very close to pitch on F#.
Very neat lick I think.

Gents -
Fast forward to 2:50 for Jim Vest's origin of the lick (for use on Sunday Morning Coming Down during his Printer Alley days)
And his later recall/reapplication for Paycheck's Slide off your Satin Sheets"......
then 10 years later another application at the Vern Gosdin "Set 'em Up Joe" session.
Great Stuff on that Series of Videos by Jim Vest

Thanks for the refresher guys!
