One of the more fun parts of playing the steel comes when you find out "how did he doo dat...".
For several years I've listened to Jimmy Day's version of "Funny How Time Slips Away", and always wondered how, in one passage, one string tone stayed constant whilst another moved more half tones away than could be done with pedals. There's also a unique "buzzing" to the tone of the constant string.
Herb shows the secret in Shuffles Ballads and Waltzes VOL. 2
Hint, I gotta get better at keeping the nose of my bar coincident with the upper most string of the current grip, and none of this "paint brush" bar technique.
Thanks Herb.[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 06 April 2006 at 07:53 AM.]
