Did any one see Ralph Mooneys old Sho-Bud, that Fred Jack now owns. It had the John Coop make over. A job well done.
Buy the way Fred do you know how many hits Ralph played on that Sho-Bud??????

Autry,
I saw it and loved it !!! The first thing I looked for was a price tag The other two sho-bud's next to it were also outstanding but I really liked that little silver moon on the front of Ralph's

Autry, I saw that guitar as John Coop was working some of his magic on it in the Performance room. One beautiful guitar.

Are you guys talking about a black Sho-Bud? I think I have some pictures of that guitar. About 20 years ago we opened for Waylon and I think we got some pictures of Moon playing that guitar.

I remember when I was setting up my Emmons next to his guitar, I looked over at that pretty Sho-Bud. A sour-faced roadie came over and said, "Don't even think about touching that guitar." A real friendly chap he was.

Why Thanx, John K., Those are my two buds! John C. refurbed the blonde, and I displayed the walnut bud along side the blonde bud to demonstrate "what was, and what could be". We never flipped guitars over so many time in a weekend!! John and I were "feeling the burn!" The Moon's bud was WAY cool!! John's work is STUNNING!! Mr. Mooney was a blast to meet, too, and very considerate for a few pictures!!! He made a good day into a great day for a few of us for sure!! Thanx Mr. Mooney!

I want to say for John C. and me, to personally say thanx to Jerry Brightman for sharing his room with us, or few folks would have had the opportunity to have seen these fine resurrected shobud guitars! It meant so much to display John's fine craftsmanship so people could see it and play the "Coop's parts" first hand, by playing my blonde Professional.

Between Jerry B., Chuck Cambell, and John Coop, that room had allot of buzzzz going on. People would come in to see Moon's guitar, then check out Jerry's happenings, then Chuck's. Or they'd start at Chucks or Jerry's and end up at them shobuds---Lots of activity!!

Of course, Moons guitar is sacred---NOBODY sat down to play THAT one. I was probably as close to playing it as anyone, helping put a "ball park" tune up on it with my Peterson tuner. Everytime I'd think--yeah, I'll just sneak in a lick or two, seems that guitar would whisper back to me "Seat time, boy, you need more seat time if your gonna pick me!!" Now how can I argue with the Moons guitar? HA!! Guess all that pickin's up to Fred now! Congratulations, Fred, on a super axe!

James and Ricky .. Thanks for posting the pic's.James I am real happy to be the owner of that historical Bud!Words really cannot describe the work that Coop did on this Bud.I can't think of proper wording to describe his work but it is first class, precision at its finest.I will add that John is first and foremost an engineer.Any of you who have worked around engineers will know what I mean. This Bud was actually built by none other than Bobbe Seymour.About 1985-1986.Maybe Bobbe can tell us which year. For me this is the ultimate!Bobbe the card you put in this Bud when you built it was still in tact and my wife laminated it so it is in good condition.Ain't she a good girl? I want to get another picture of the underneath so you all can see Coop's work.
A great big thank you to Moon and also Jerry and Chuck for sharing with us in Dallas. I hope I haven't bored ya'all too much. Regards, Fred

Fred, yes, I built Ralph's Sho-Bud in 1985 at my Goodlettsville Shop.

Waylon commisioned me to build this guitar for Ralph as a suprise for him.

The spec.s for this guitar were so different from the stock Sho-Buds that I had to order the needed parts after I figured out what Ralph really wanted. He used this guitar until the end of the Waylon job.

I continued to service this guitar for Ralph until the end. Lubrication, strings and minor adjustments were all it ever needed.

Waylon was a great friend, I also furnished him with thousands of his famous "Flying W picks" and his favorite strings, which he bought in sets by the grose.
He loved the Cobra Coil strings, as did Ralph.

Waylon and Ralph were a wonderful combination, Sometimes I hate it when "time marches on".

By the way Fred, I think I charged Waylon $1800.00 for building this guitar, Sure is worth a lot more now!

We opened for Waylon, back in 1984. Here is a shot of Ralph playing his previous Sho-Bud.

Here's ole Waylon.

And a couple of shots of Jessi. That's Randy Scruggs on the bass.

And here's a shot of our band. The bass player, guitar player, and I are still playing in the same band.

I just remembered. We started off our set with Ricky Skaggs' "Highway 40 Blues". There was a huge crowd that night and I was shaking in my boots. We were used to playing dances, not concerts. I wasn't sure if my fingers were going to make it through my two steel breaks on that song.
