I use the stuff called DeoxIT in a spray can, to clean pots. If that doesn't fix the problem, a new pot is usually needed.
Is it a pre-war or post war instrument ? Post war frypans have a bakelite cover on the bottom & are easy to access volume & tone pots etc..
Pre-war....the pickup has to be removed to access pots & wiring etc..

| Hopefully the spray can fix it. As a general reference, the folks at RetroFret in Brooklyn are highly knowledgeable about vintage steels and have an excellent repair department. |

| i have a pre-war A-22 which long suffered intermittent loss of volume, temporarily solved by tapping the top of the horseshoe with the butt end of the bar. it was permanently solved by removing the pickup and sending it to jason lalor, who discovered loose pole pieces under a few of the strings. |

I had a same problem with my A-22. It’s from typical pole piece issue. Sanding and putting a thin aluminum foil shim between the pole piece and the horseshoe solved the problem.

| I believe that instrument is one that was painted from the factory, and I stripped and sanded & polished it for (?) Scott Thomas ?? Anyway, he sold it through Elderly. He posted pics of it on here back then... |
