I tried one out at the NAMM show 6 weeks ago and liked it. I thought it played well and sounded good.

I can see why Bobbe likes them.

I played one at the NAMM show and was very impressed with it. A lot of guitar for the price.

Mike, as you probably know, many builders will give their products away in endorsment deals. Artists will usually "agree" to play the instrument for a set amount of time. This is all well and fine, except for the fact that the costs of endorsments are usually passed on in the prices of their guitars. Unfortunately that means an increase in the price of the guitar to the Joe Blows of the world. This is the way it usually goes. I do not mean to single out any one brand, but manufacturers in general.

Curt, what rock did you just crawl out from underneath? The days of "giving" a guitar away as a promotional is long gone. Manufacturers might give some pro players a substantial discount on a guitar but it will usually cover their costs so no expense is passed on to the "Joe Blows" who have to pay retail price. If there are any who still do give their product away, they are few and are very selective.

There are a lot of freebies still handed out in the electric guitar world. A friend of mine was recently given a Gibson guitar so long as he plays it exclusively on stage (not sure if there is a time limit or not). This was just a few months ago.

Mike W., I don't know what your problem is,(or care) but you are definately out of touch. What makes you think manufacturers do not give their products away as endorsements? Are you a builder?.... Are you a super player?....I think not.
Geez

It's true in the Standard Guitar world, where the large market makes it a good business practice.

Every Steel builder that I've spoken to (that's most of them), and many Pros, all say Steel Guitar give aways simply don't happen. The builders can't afford it in our small market.

If you where a steel builder? How could you afford to not give high profile players a guitar? Now I'm not talking about every guy that's got a road gig. But the super stars of pedal steel. If there is such a thing? Of course you'd have to insist they endose it or turn it in.Just makes good business sense.

Exactly......... It's not rocket science.

Well, I sure don't expect them to advertise the fact. That would be foolish, don't you think?

How does all this opinionated dumping help answer the original question?

Curt, if that's your criteria for stating an opinion about endorsements, then I don't think you qualify either.

BTW You mispelled apathetic. There is only one "a" and it isn't the first letter in the word.

I think it is wise to walk instead of run..
In most cases for the PRO players..

they DID not receive there Steels for free,

that from one very famous players mouth..

Perhaps before making the statement which in this case refers to Sarah and the Magnum....maybe actually knowing the business transaction first would be wise.

Even if it were true, it's not anyones business other than Sarah's and Carter's...

It's called marketing..every business does it..large small..in between..

I hardly think that even if they gave Sarah 1 Steel in the scheme of things will really drive the cost up of the rest of them.

What if she doesn't own it ?

What if she bought it ?

What if she has it on loan ?

What if what if what if..

It's a brand new Steel on the market..

What if builders didn't make new Steels anymore ?

What if 1000 people see her play it and want one and buy one?

Does that drive the cost up ?

Unless someone actually knows the facts it is wise to not make a blanket statement about something which is not our business anyway...

Hey..On the Emmons website homepage there is a picture of Steve Rabbits new Steel which Ron Jr. must have given to him for free...otherwise why would it be there..?

Mike! In your business do you ever give away free caskets as a promotional, or do you give substantial discounts?

I don`t know about steel endorsments but my son inlaw gets basses and amps from fender free. I won`t mention his name because it might harm his deal.He does however have to pay a very low price for G S H strings So there are some deals for high profile people.

I was told in no uncertain terms that NO Magnum steel guitars will be given away to prominent players. Pat Seivers (of the Nashville Star TV show) just bought a new one from me. We asked the Magnum company for some what of a deal for Pat,and none, but they did pat me on the head.
You can rest assured that Ms. Jory paid for hers, and why not? Now she owns and can legally do what ever she wishes with it.

I guess we can assume then that Ms.Jory feels the Magnum is as good or better than the top of the line Carter? Or not worth the additional cost? Or maybe she was just a little short on cash??
