I've had this Stringmaster since the early 2000's when I acquired it after Ed Black passed. I've used it on many, many gigs and it's always been a champ. Picked up the standard dings that come with use on the road, as well as a significant blemish described below. I just haven't used it much in the past few years and it's time to thin the herd.
Also, it's missing the two blend control covers near the pickups. I never needed them so I never installed them. If you want them they're readily available online — eBay, Reverb, etc.
Back neck set up is C6; front neck is set up with a 6-string open E tuning for slide guitar, though you could put the other two strings back on and choose a different tuning. It could probably use new strings all around.
You can see in the picture of the neck with the tuner pan removed, a written date of 8-56; also a 2 in another direction (or an N?), as well as possibly an F in yet another direction. If anyone knows the meaning of those marks please enlighten us all.
Unfortunately, one time I had it stored in the case on end and the room flooded, removing some paint and discoloring the case. Didn't affect the playability; just gave it honky-tonk character, if you will. I used it for years after that and everything works as it should.
I'm asking $1200 with $50 shipping in the lower 48 states. If you're outside that area, let's talk.
Check out the pics, please ask questions, PM me.
Thanks for looking. Swing high and play on!
Here's a shot of me playing the Stringmaster with Jessi Colter and fiddler Jenny Lynn in Scottsdale, AZ in 2002 shortly after Waylon passed. She didn't mind that it was a bit rough around the edges.
