Hi. I bought this a few years ago from a forum member. It didn't come with legs or pedals but my ZB stuff fits perfectly. It has ShoBud fretboards but I know it is definitely not a Bud....but it sounds AMAZING! Can anyone identify the brand or is it someones homemade steel project? Thanks for looking.

I once owned an instrument like that - no name, Sho-bud fretboards, sounded fantastic. In the end I gave up trying to find out who made it, and I got rid of it because it was too heavy and I wanted an all-pull. There seem to have been a lot of long-forgotten builders back then. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

I'd vote against it being Miller. There are a couple slight similarities to the ones I've owned, but most of it is not close. IMHO _________________ RICK ABBOTT

I hope it was made by Howard Klontz ... just because. |

Someone on Facebook posted a photo of a Klontz but it was way different. _________________ Dave Zirbel-

I would say not a Miller at all. |

Thanks Alan. I guess he's built more than one pedal steel! _________________ Dave Zirbel-

When Buzz Davis died in 1984 he left all his half-completed instruments and his stock of spare parts in his damp basement. Ten years later his son was going to throw everything out, so I made him an offer for his entire stock of spare parts and half-completed guitars, plus a few lap steels, which I renovated.
This guitar was built out of parts bought from the Emmons Guitar Company. (I have the receipts). He also milled some of the parts himself. It was never completed. I put it aside in my basement den with the intention of someday completing the project, but I have too many future projects accumulated, and, in any case, I'm better at building acoustic instruments than pedal steels. So, a couple of years ago I passed it on to Dave Zirbel, who is more likely to make a good job of it than I would.
That's the complete history so far.

When I lived in Flint Michigan around 1969 my Uncle An I visited with Howard Cluntz an he had probably ten double 10 beautiful steels in his basement for sale my uncle bought one an I bought one for my dad In Arkansas. These steels worked more like a ZB no axel. I can’t remember if they were built to lower strings or not. |
