I have several inexpensive strat style pickups. For the price they sound good. I noticed on one I am going to use in my new build, one of the poles is lower by about 1/32". The poles are not adjustable. The lower one is the end pole. My question is, is this done purposely? If so, would you put the lower pole on the bass string or the treble string?

Bill, I would put the short pole under the fat string. If it is a Strat-style pickup, the leads should tell you which way the manufacturer intended it to go. The wires go down, towards the bridge.
