My friend Jim Cohen suggested tabbing out Randy Beavers' version of "You Don't Know Me" from the video of his performance in the Zumsteel Room at the 2004 International Steel Guitar Convention. I said "I will if you will" so we teamed up on this one. After a LOT of time and discussion here's our best effort. Questions and comments are always welcome.
If you're not familiar with Randy, he's an outstanding steel player. Not only was he on the road for years with LeeAnn Womack, he can play any type of music from country to jazz to pop to rock and is a master of interesting voicings. He's got 4 CD's that I know of, "A Few Of My Favorite Things", "Still, A Way Without Words", "The Next Step", and a twin steel CD with Russ Hicks, "A Little R & R". Lots of variety in his song choices: George Benson, Steely Dan, Michael Jackson, James Taylor, Hoagey Carmichael, Carpenters, etc.
Randy's personal tuning is a little different...Randy's posted several times over the years with his setup. Here's one thread to check out https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=236653&highlight=
This tab is written for a fairly standard Emmons setup. Knee Levers are as follows
D: lowers 4 and 8 1/2 tone
F: raises 4 and 8 1/2 tone
E, EE: E lowers 2 1/2 tone (at half stop) and lowers 9 1/2 tone and "EE" lowers 2 whole tone
G: raises 1 whole tone, 2 1/2 tone, and lowers 6 whole tone.
** NOTE: I've put the times on the video at the top of each page

Awesome. I sing this song and play a jazz piano arrangement to it in my lounge lizard set and have an acoustic guitar version too for my oldies pop set.
One of my favorite songs..
Now on steel.
Thanks! |

Thank you all for your nice comments. Jim Cohen and I refused to give up on this one and did our best to get it as close as possible. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all and I'm sure I'll have a few new tab projects coming in 2019. |

Rereading Jeff's original post from 2018 reminds me that Jim Cohen was also involved in this undertaking.
I feel a kinship with both of these worthy Forumites: if there are any Anglophiles in the steel community, Jeff and Jim surely qualify.

Thank you very much, Dale.
Michael: Thank you very much for your kind comments. I've been the recipient of some of your outstanding tab work for Mike Headrick... it's like getting the answer sheet to the exam I know what an inexact science tabbing can be but I thoroughly enjoy trying to get things as close as possible and it can be very rewarding to finally nail a tricky phrase after beating it to death - it looks like you have the "tablature bug" as well! Keep up the great work |

Since I've been away from a pedal guitar for the last several weeks while visiting my dad in South Arizona, I'd like to inquire whether or not this is the same Cindy Walker song made so popular by Ray Charles that Richard Manuel made into his own. I absolutely revere the version by Israel K, who had the voice of an angel.
