Just thought I'd post this after joining the forum this afternoon. Been reading and enjoying the posts for a couple of years now I guess. What a great place this is for steelers. On a post earlier today was a question on double changers. My MK Pedal Steel is a double changer guitar, raises at the right end, lowers at the left end, with conventional machine heads. That's all I build nowadays. I've been a jazz fan for many years, used to pick some with Lenny Breau when we were kids. Saw my first pedal steel at another forum member's place, Rusty Walker's, way back in the mid 50's. Built my first one, a D10 in 1962, still play on it some. Thanks for your time, and I hope to join in on these great discussions from time to time.

Hi Mac,
Your guitars sound fascinating. Any chance of a picture or two? I couldn't even imagine trying to make a psg. Jeez, I have enough trouble trying to figure out what other people have done with it!
I'm a rank beginner on psg, and another newbie here, but hearing from people like you makes these forums a wonderful place to learn and to communicate with others.

| Welcome Mac. just joined myself. like you i made my own steel guitar , four in all back in 1972. one was a lefthanded one for guy in england called Paul Hendry ,played for Lonnie Donigan , he went on to be a very fine player |

Welcome to the forum Mac from a fairly recent newbie to the forum myself ~ and thanks for your posting on my thread earlier (double changers)
Any chance you could post a sketch or two showing how the left-hand (lowering) changer works ? In my time I've built 4 pedal steels, but all with conventional all-pull changers at the bridge and I've never encountered a double changer guitar, so I'm a bit intrigued by it all.
If you don't know how to post photos/graphics on the forum don't ask me ~ I haven't figured it out yet either ! ~ you could e-mail any stuff to me ~

| For those of you that don't know. Mac Knowles wrote an excellent book called "A Pedal Steel Guitar Builder's Manual". A great project guide to building your own guitar from scratch. I learned a lot from it. |

Thanks Glenn for the kind words on my book. I sold a pile of those books all over the planet. The guitar was kind of basic, but a lot of people built a guitar more or less from the book. I'm workin' on a new one, on CD or download, with a lot of pics etc., but days and weeks go by, and I never touch it. Hopefully by spring it'll be ready, and will cover a lot of things I've found out more recently as these guitars and the players that love 'em need and want.
