My friend, and lead player for our band, bought a Henricksen "Blu" amplifier a month ago. It is small, and weighs only 12 lbs... but it has a surprising 120 watts of really full bodied tone. I believe this amp is popular with jazz guitarists, and I can see why. On small gigs he uses it alone, and on larger stages he uses an external single 12" cab, with a legacy EV speaker in it.... Really packs a punch for a small rig.
Just curious if any steel guitarists have tried this amp yet? _________________ Dave Wren

Hey David, I've got the 2 channel version of it, The Bud. It's an incredible amp, seriously the size of a toaster. I I play fiddle and mandolin for most gigs and it's by far the best sounding acoustic amp I've ever played through for that. Great for vocals too. Has a really nice spread on a gig, especially for its size.
I haven't played steel through it, but now I'm gonna have to. It's like carrying a big lunchbox into gigs, and has a great sounding reverb on both channels.
I have played cello through the Bud and it farted out a little on the really low bowed notes (but I was trying to keep up with a loud drummer too), so I'd imagine it might be the same on C6. It's a really amazing amp tho. I'll run my steel into it and report back. _________________ Fiddle, banjo and steel for Tennessee Jet, Blaine Bailey

Great to see some Henriksen love on here! I live a couple of miles from the shop and have gotten to know Peter and the team, and can say without a doubt that the whole team there are top notch people and build a great product that they stand behind.
I also own a Bud, and a JazzAmp 1x12 with a TT12 speaker in it. Both are great. The Bud is my Swiss Army knife unit for all types of instruments and vocals. The only thing I’d say is that the internal speaker is a little small to get a full pedal steel sound out of it, but using it as a head to drive a 12 or 15†speaker yields solid results.
Don’t know when it will be available for purchase, but they are currently prototyping a 1x12 amp with a tube preamp and their existing solid state power amp, packed into a Deluxe sized enclosure with a neo speaker. Twin-like power, and weighs about 15-20lbs... watch out for it! |

I have the older 60 watt Henriksen 10" amp with the blue face and a matching road case. I use it for arch-top jazz guitar and it has a perfect stage volume and sound. It has a line out, but I prefer to mic it for larger stages. I have never used it for steel, never even thought about it till now. I could add a 12" extension speaker if I wanted, but it already handles the big heavy gauge jazz strings on my arch-top well, so it probably wouldn't need it I'm thinking. After using this amp for a few years, all I can say is Henriksen makes great amps. |
