I'm selling my beautiful vintage early 40's (1941-2?) Rickenbacher Electro, Model NS 100, Silver Hawaiian nickel-plated brass lap steel. I've based the dates on the serial number - D1659 and with the Rickenbacher register.

My Ric has always been really well looked after and is in excellent+ condition. It has a beautiful vintage tone and sustain and a big output from the 1.5" horseshoe pickup. Volume and tone controls are on the audience side, are clean and work perfectly. It has replacement Kluson style tuners which look exactly like the originals and are smooth, accurate and hold well. The decal has the original spelling - 'Rickenbacher'. The nickel plating is mirror-like with some playing wear and some light, hardly noticeable pitting. The original hard case is missing the latch and one of the hinges is broken but it still functions. I use a different case if I'm touring.

The horseshoe pickups are said to be the "holy grail" when it comes to lap steels, particularly the pre-war 1 1/2 inch pickups (they've got THE sound!). Those pickups have amazing tone and output! I would say the hollow brass body with nickel plating gives the Silver Hawaiian a warm unique tone, somewhere between the Bakelites and the steel bodied NS models.

Set this instrument tone and your amp tone up to however you want - I add a few more highs to the tone if I want a bit more bite and growl for blues and bring it back for a sweeter mellow tone for Hawaiian and Jazz - the pickup will produce whatever you want.

Nut = 1 13/16" (46mm)
String spacing = 3/8" (9mm)

Bridge = 2 1/8" (53mm)
Spacing = 7/16" (10mm)

The spacings are perfect for slants - here's a link to John Ely's page where you can work out the slant bar angles - of all the vintage lap steel listed the Ric's are the easiest.

In the last few years really clean, vintage Ric lap steels are becoming harder and harder to find so this is a great opportunity to own a wonderful, collectable and very playable instrument in amazing condition.

Price drop to $1495 plus postage and insurance. I have attached some pics below.
