Me too and I own Studio One 4.1 Pro (along with Sonar).
I'm trying to like Studio One but so far Sonar still wins for me. |

I used to fight with Pro Tools. That was a losing battle. It seems that the program is designed to work in a very specific hardware environment and it is not very forgiving.
My experience with Studio One 4.1 has been much more positive. It just seems to work. No real hardware / software issues and the the resulting recordings are good quality.
Now I can concentrate on working the program instead of making the program work. _________________ blah, blah, blah.

There are always some HARDWARE items that we fight with. Not all drivers and hardware accessories are equal. Even though they are advertised as compatible.
Not all hardware likes the PC or MAC environment which has a direct relationship to the DAW.
We've all been there. I have a couple of items where neither of my Pro Tools systems ( 8 XP and 12 WIN7 ) like them but then again the others connected first pass.
By the way, a few of those items ( interfaces) didn't connect with Sonar either, but my take was at the time it was an XP PC issue, not related to the DAW. Other interfaces connected right away.
So is it the DAW, the operating system, the PC itself or the hardware / drivers ?
here's an example
I am using a very early version of an M Audio PCI card interface, ( Delta series) supposedly not compatible with Win 7 or Pro Tools past version 9 which requires WIN 7. It runs just fine, no issues with WIN 7 or Pro Tools. The I/O's connected first pass. Still running, 4 years now .
It's not supposed to work.
Everyone claims everything is compatible. Me I think thats not even remotely possible _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

Older ProTools versions would only work with specific MAudio equipment. It was a "closed" system. Newer versions have relaxed that. I had ProTools (MP9, a proprietary hardware version) and didn't really take to ProTools. I downloaded a 30 day trial version of PT10 as it was supposed to be compatible with other hardware vendors, such as the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 I had at the time but it still took "jumping through hoops" to get it recognized. I moved on and went back to Sonar. |

I agree with your point, Tony.
Pro Tools is considered to be "the standard" from what I read. Many people use it and get great results. I guess I am not willing to meet the "computing environment" requirements defined by Pro Tools to make their product work at its best. This is not a rap on Pro Tools.
Studio One just seems to work for me right out of the box. That, I like! _________________ blah, blah, blah.

It's all god Dan, we use what works...
Jack, who can say why . I had a Tascam interface that even Holy Water couldn't get it to connect !
I have PT 8 (XP) and 12,( Win 7) nothing in between. The MAudio Driver is dated back to 2010 or so. I had no issues with the Win 7 system with PT 12 in 2015. As soon as WIN 7 recognized the driver, PT 12 found it as well.
It's all designed to just make us all nuts and acquire more medicine.
