Hi,
I'm headed on tour this week and looking for places of interest for steel players. Stores, clubs, repair shops, whatever...
Here's where I'm headed!
Wed. 10.24 - Art Boutiki Music Hall - San Jose, CA
Thurs. 10.25 - Starline Social Club - Oakland, CA
Fri. 10.26 - The Palms Playhouse - Winters, CA
Sat. 10.27 - Rio Nido Roadhouse - Rio Nido, CA
Sun. 10.28 - Saint James Infirmary - Reno, NV
Mon. 10.29 - The Grovehouse - Mariposa, CA
Tues. 10.30 - Norton Buffalo Hall - Paradise, CA
Wed. 10.31 - The Weed Palace Theater - Weed, CA
Thurs. 11.1 - Old St. Francis School - Bend, OR
Fri. 11.2 - Mission Theater - Portland, OR
Sat. 11.3 - Marysville Opera House - Marysville, WA
Sun. 11.4 - Tractor Tavern - Seattle, WA
Out with a band called the Easy Leaves and another fella, Karl Blau. I'm not sure what free time I'll have (NO DAYS OFF!), but I'm starting to get over there enough I should begin to make an effort to poke around when possible.
Thanks in advance for any info, or for just saying hi n such...
I don't check my PMs very often, but can email at shakesonian@gmail.com or

If you can squeeze it in, come by and check out the new Sierra steels I'm building. I'm located in Petaluma. |

Dave-your playing is inspirational on this stuff! So right on the money. Give me another ten years and I'll get close.
Ross-I'll look up your shop, if I don't make it this time I'll have it on the map for the next!! |

Sorry there is not much in the way of public steel guitar hotspots for you here in Portland, best you can do is arrange to connect with a steel picker or three. I will be out of town but there are plenty of others hanging around |

Not sure if Tab Tabscott lurks here, but he'd be a good one to check in with in the Seattle area. He used to know some of my old Idaho bandmates back in the 80's and 90's. He's a regular out there in Seattle, and last time I talked to him it sounded like his dobro is taking a backseat to his pedals again.
Dave, I played last night with Chris McDonald, and Travis Hardy, at the Owl Club in Salmon. They always talk VERY highly of you. In fact, when I sit in with them, they always thank me, and I swear they mutter under-their-breath "but you're no Shaky Dave." _________________ A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first. |

If you somehow get a chance to go down the southern CA coast, go say hey to Jim Palenscar in Oceanside at Steel Guitars of North County! Great shop, great guy, great hang.
Also, Steel Guitars West (Lynn Stafford's place) is in Oregon City, OR I think... and maybe hit up Bryan Daste to see if he's around? |

Dave Grafe- I think Portland is the steel guitar mecca for the Pacific Northwest!
I've always been bad with linking up with people, seeking things out, but I'm trying to change that!
Feel free to recommend folks to look up, or any shows/venues.
Last time I was there I got to share a bill with Paul Brainard at Laurelthirst. I was thrilled to listen and nervous to play! |
