So a fellow is bringing in a 12 string single neck "MSA by Bud Carter" 3 pedal 4? Knee lever?.. Anyway assuming it seems middling to decent condition are these desirable at all?

I feel that a 5 & 4 setup for a Universal 12 is better, but he may have an Extended E-9 MSA 12 which is good too.

Depends on your music style & if you want to add more levers & pedals, which are sometimes available.

From the 3 Peddle 4 Knee Levers setup, I would say it is an extended E9th Set up. If it was a Universal setup it would have at least 7 pedals to do E9/B6 tuning.

Yes, it's likely an ext. E9th, and as such, not really what you'd call "popular". Most of these will sell somewhere between $1100 and $1500, depending on condition.
