Does anyone have much to say about the MSA supersistain pickups, are they equal to George L pickups?

I wouldn't call them better or worse, just a little different. What is it you're looking for that you think a different pickup might give you?

Hello Donny, I have had my eye on a MSA SS XL double 10, but it has supersustain pickups, I prefer George L E66 pickups for sound, but I do not want to alter the MSA if it has decent pickups on it, or is comparable to George L.

The SS pickups have their own sound just as all PUs do. One thing you have to take under consideration is that PUs that are 30 years old like lots of these become microphonic and need to be serviced. I don't remember if these are sealed in epoxy or not, but if not, they can be wax potted or if needed rewound.

Bud Carter who had a big part in the MSA guitars says on the Carter website that an MSA can be improved soundwise with an E66 or other type of pickup. That should say something right there.

Personally I have one particular MSA D10 that I love the sound of the SS pickups on! Big sound and great fidelity. The "modern" sound today seems to be a more treble register that will cut through record mixes and compete with Tele players, but I prefer a more balanced tone with more mids and lows.

If you are looking at the SS model, are you sure that it has Super Sustain PUs? I have seen these with SSII model pickups. I had that guitar in a single neck on a double frame and I liked the old MSA classic better.

You can't go wrong with a vintage MSA for the right price.

Hey Bill, read your reply, I like the MSA SS because of the wood body and the lacquer finish that is why I am eyeing this guitar but a newer guitar probably would be better, the pickups are Supersustain.

Well... Some would and some would not i guess. These "old" MSA wood body, Classic SS and Classic XL's are very well built instruments. They look good, they sound good, they stay in tune with very smooth pedal action. And they seems to last forever.
