Ok guys, I've been practicing some E9 lately and I like to record myself from time to time and post it on the Forum to check my progress. Give me some pointers and tips and don't hold back. I used Doug Beaumier's arrangement of Crazy from the tab off his web site and Band in a Box for the rhythm track. Thanks Doug for that excellent tab. ( I almost used "Doug Beaumiers Crazy" for the subject title of this post, but didn't want to infer that he was insane) ha ha. Crazy

I think it's very good for a new player, not sure how long you've been playing. I think you said in other posts, it's a pretty short time. Your intonation is pretty good. I suggest using Bob Hoffners intonation cd to get even closer. All in all, I'd say you've made good progress.

Nice job Andy, I enjoyed listening to it.
I agree basically with what Howard said.

You may get a kick out of reading my related post. It's in the "Steel Players" section. It's only about 5 or 6 days old and it's called Fun and "Crazy" Gig. Check it out if you get a chance.
Keep up the good work.

It's great listening to myself play. I'm hearin things that I know I need to work on but I appreciate the comments from the Forum too. I've been holdin off usin my volume pedal till I get a better feel for what I'm doin but I think it's about time to include it in my playin. Any tips on where the volume pedal should be used?

Hearing yourself play will be one of the best tools you'll ever get so you can keep playing better. I believe it's Larry Bell that said to play it at least ten times in a row without a single mistake and then you'll have it right or close in my case. Make one mistake and you start all over again on the count to ten. How long have you been playing?

Frank, I've been playin non pedal for about a year now and bought my Carter D-10 about the same time. I've messed with it some during that time but it's only been in about the last month that I've really been tryin to learn it the right way with some courses I purchased. My dobro and non pedal playin certainly got me off to a good start but learnin to use pedals and knee levers is a whole other gig.

sounds good Andy. What did you use for the backing tracks? That can't be BIAB. Nice playing. Keep it up.

Jason, I did infact use Band in a Box for the rhythm. If anyone wants the BIAB file email me and I'll send it to you or I can send you the rhythm file in mp3 format instead.

I liked your "Crazy". It sounds almost "lazy" in a good way, like you were not strugling to just keep-up.

Why does your BIAB sound so good ? Mine sounds like a chorus of cell-phones. Do you have an external MIDI device or a good sound-card ?

I have an external midi sound modual and it still sounds pretty cheesy. I would never think of using it for anything more than practicing with. Yours sounds great though.

Band in a Box doesn't have any sounds to it, your sound card is what determines how it's gonna sound. I ordered a better sound card with my laptop when I bought it and also use the Roland Sound Canvas with BIAB and to me it made all the difference. Of course it's never gonna take the place of live musicians but for practicing purposes it's a great tool to have at your disposal and has really helped me with my rhythm and chord changes. If anyone wants more info on BIAB or the Roland Sound Canvas, just email me at LoveRideHD@aol.com I'll be glad to try and answer any questions if I can.

It just occurred to me that not everyone that uses BIAB has the same styles as I do. I've received a few emails that said when my BIAB rhythm file for Crazy was opened it defaulted to another recommended style and not the one I used, so if anyone wants the style I used, here it is. Just right click on the link and choose "save target as" then save it to your BIAB folder. C~patsy.sty
