I had my MARRS sent to Mickey Adams and he cleaned it and set it up for me. The "0" pedal will lower 3 and 6. Can't wait to get it back next week. If you need a "tune-up", contact Mickey and it will be like a new one when he is finished with it.

Thanks Tony. I love it and since Mickey worked on it for me, it plays so easy and sounds great!

Insane sustain! My favorite kind. That guitar looks and sounds amazing, glad you resurrected it back from the dead.

Duane Marrs was a genius. That guitar would look modern today. What a superb instrument.

I agree, Duane was a genius, and Mickey Adams is in the same league with him when it comes to setting-up and adjusting a steel guitar. Mickey is a first-class mechanic!

Gary, I have that change on my "0" pedal too, and I love it. Gives a nice jazzy 4-chord, especially in combination with the A pedal--instead of mashing A+B to get a 4.

Oh--it's a beautiful steel too! I met Duane in N'ville in the late 80s.

I have been doing some research on this steel and a man by the name of WAYNE JARRETT did the custom finish work on it in 1983. He has done work for Barbara Mandrell, Jeff Newman, Buddy Emmons, ALABAMA and Prince, just to name a few. Forum member, Pete Dalton, told me this: “Duane Marrs Built the guitar for Gary Pike Of Radcliff Ky. He played it for awhile and My good friend Art Cockreil bought it from a Pawn shop in Radcliff Ky, and played it for several years and I purchased it from Art. I kept it for a couple of years and traded it to a gentleman in Jackson Mississippi.”
A MARRS steel doesn’t comes up for sale very often, and when they do, it seems like that are getting a pretty penny for them and they don’t stay on the market very long before they are snapped up.

Yes, very much akin to the Franklin guitar. Duane and Paul Snr. worked at Sho~Bud at the same time. They were both visionaries when it came to pedal steel. I read somewhere that they would exchange ideas on their way home in the car, and I believe that it's no co-incidence that these two guys went on (after they moved on from Sho~Bud obviously) to produce their own guitars that both became extremely sought after.

Thanks for that information. I also read that Duane is the one that came up with the idea of the modern steel guitar seat as we know it today. I've been offered an "obscene" amount of money, in my opinion, but I think I will hold on to this steel for awhile. I really like the sound of the original BL705 on this one.
Jeff Surratt is someone else that makes a wonderful steel, Show Pro, and he worked with Duane as well. So Duane, Paul Sr. and Jeff know some "secrets"!

A friend of mine had a later all pull Marlen Steel that had a very similar paint job. I wonder if the same guy did that one.
