Does anyone out there have any information on how to tune a very old Marlen D-10 that's been connverter to a s/d I recently bought one through the S.G.F. and it's pretty much un-playable the way it sits now. Any info. or suggestions are appreciated. |

I had the same problem and I sent it to Mickey Adams. Here are the results: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85Wml0K00-g&feature=youtu.be
He can probably fix yours too. _________________ If you succeed in cheating someone, don't think that the person is a fool. It's just that the person trusted you far more than you deserved. |

I have a Marlen Speedy West S-10 with a "Pull Release" changer. It was a little challenging to set up correctly, but once it was done, I have never had to mess with it.
You can search on "Pull Release" and get an number of great threads on the subject. Here is a link to just one of them:

lets see the underneath pics of what you bought...and if the endplate has a cut out where you would tune any idle rods.

Ok I see; you are talking about this one>

Well it being RE-set up to play and only tune with Stop Screws at end-plate; so no spring tension rods that the "Pull-release" version a few years after yours was made. So you really need to get with Jim Flynn on the tuning procedure he set it up for. I would figure it out if I had it I could sit down to it...but almost impossible to tell you what to do underneath for it to play proper...from looking at pictures...as it is a custom set up...NOT standard Marlen Pull=release set up.

The highest notes on each string tune at the keyhead, the lowest notes with the screws in the endplate.
Since there is no "window" in the endplate, if any string both raises and lowers, the open notes will tune somewhere on the underside. If you can't figure that step out on your own, then contact Jim; that's a memorable guitar, he'll probably remember what he did with it. Without seeing the guitar, I can't offer more than that. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
