I was attempting to replace my single coil in my Mullen SD12 with an XR16. The guitar and the pickup ARE NARROW MOUNT, so that's not the problem. It won't fit. I had this same problems with the 710s that I put in my Carter. The bottom plate is the problem. It protrudes out the sides of the pickup about 1/32 to 1/16 inch. On the 710s, I filed down the plate to be flush with the sides of the pickup. I'm trying that on this pickup, but I don't know how the hell people use Bill Lawrence pickups in their guitars. This will be my last. I would think that if you order a BL pickup on your guitar, the builder must route out the pickup cavity a little bigger. Don't know. Now I just have to put up with hum at gigs or use my Carter.

Richard - I have a Jzchak Wajcman black-surrounds "Lawrence" dba "Bill Lawrence USA" 705 pickup in my Mullen G2 SD-10. It's wide-mount, fits perfectly, and sounds great. I'm an advocate of the original "real" Bill Lawrence pickups, and I didn't want to like it. But I have to confess, I really like this pickup on that guitar.

Down side is that it's hard to tell if he makes a 12-string pickup. I'd like to try one on my Zum Universal it it exists.

Another possibility - get someone to cut another pickup plate for your steel? I confess that I don't understand why, in this day and age, these mountings are not universal. I can't see any reason to make them variable.

I’m not sure of the recent bills but I know he made 12 String pick ups a couple years back ...... Probably 5 yrs ago or more....The 710s in the 12 string model or 712s as they were called.... I also had an XR16 in a 12 string pickup......Jim

I had a couple of different Lawrence pickups in my old Mullen Pre-Royal Precision U-12. With the first one, I had to remove the neck, install the pickup, then put the neck back on. The base of the pickup would not drop down through the hole in the neck. With the next pickup, I had to have the neck opening enlarged. The whole pickup was just too large.
