As I understand it, Ed came up with the guitar lick for the song "Workin' For MCA" and several others.
I played that one and a few others today.
I was a big 'Skynyrd fan from early on.
I also saw Ed play with Lynyrd Skynyrd at Compton Terrace in Phoenix around 1988.
RIP Ed King. |

He left a couple years before the terrible plane crash, but returned to the band in the late 80's. _________________ Stew |

I hear ya Pete-love me some Lynyrd Skynyrd! One of my all-time favorite bands for sure. Those guys were naturals when it came to musical arrangement. _________________ Stew |

Groovy! Ed barefoot onstage. I wonder if that's where Ronnie Van Zant got the idea to perform barefooted? _________________ Stew |

I first got to know Ed when he lived in New Jersey. He was my sister-in-laws neighbor. Also, we would visit every year at the Dallas guitar show where he was a regular. One of the things he is probably most know for other than being a great guitar player..is the lick for Skynyrd's big hit Sweet Home Alalbama......real nice guy...he will be missed.......RIP ED... |

I had the pleasure of meeting Ed at Soundcheck in Nashville. The Peavey office was located in Soundcheck, and I was there that Monday morning and Ed and I came face to face in the hallway. I knew who he was and introduced myself and we had a very nice discussion about gear in general. At that time, Skynard was on tour and I wondered why Ed wasn't with them. He made the comment that they didn't ask him to tour this time. He made this comment on his own. I certainly wouldn't ask him something like that.
It was a pleasure meeting him though. A nice guy. RIP Mr. King. |

I hear tell he was instrumental in developing the Working for MCA riff and that funky intro to Swamp Music as well. _________________ Stew |

I just noticed in the SAC photo, there are two bassists. Weird but not so weird I guess because my friend the late Chris Ethridge was one of two bassists that play for Willie Nelson's band. ?????? |

Godspeed Ed!
Talk about iconic periods in music where lyrics stuck to the walls of one's mind.
What a time to be young and alive.
Ed was denied songwriting credits for the Strawberry Alarm Clock song, providing the bridge part of the song's music. Say what you will, Incense and Peppermints did get that psychedelic vibe going, implanted in the 60's youths' minds.
Dead kings, many things I can't define...
Ed far left with the shades.
Sweet home ala-band wars...
Tin soldiers and...
A southern man don't need him around anyhow...
