Hi, Im trying to figure out some old boogie and play them on lap steel. I don't have lot of musical knowledge or ear so maybe some you guys can help me on this one.

This is in the key of Bb and its a simple boogie but the intro is a little weird for me.

What I hear is : I-V-bVII-VI

Is it right?

Im trying to find a cool way to play it on C13 and the low C can give cool effect I think!

I think you're right. I was going to say the VI is a minor, but the way it's played, it doesn't matter. Jammin' tune.

The professor is playing octaves on Bb - F - G# - G, so if I was going to play chords behind that intro I would go for

Bb - F - G# - Eb because the G note is the major third of the Eb chord (the 4 chord).

But now I want to hear from Mike Neer on this.

David, I use that low C of C13 tuning to get those octave. I will try the substitution you suggested.

To be clear, I was just suggesting the chords I would play (or get the band to play) behind that 8 bar intro. The Professor is playing it solo, so it's a bit of a moot point anyway. Very cool boogie though.
