I am looking for a source for J hooks and barrel adjusters to connect cables to bell cranks for a 1964 Fender 400.
Thanks

If you actually need the whole assembly your best bet will be to find someone with some spares in "Wanted to Buy". That assembly is a turnbuckle - the knurled end that threads into the part attached the cable is reverse threaded. They're really small, 6-32 thread, not a standard item. You might be able to find some similar small-ish turnbuckles at a RC hobby supply place.
If you only need the hook part, you can fabricate those with basic tools from a 2" partial-thread 6-32 machine screw. |

Jim, if you post a "need these" on the Fender pedal steel Facebook page you'll get pretty good help. That's where the Fender players congregate since I deactivated the Fender Steel website a few years ago.
Don, those are not J hooks and standoffs -= they are small turnbuckles Fender used for the cable assemblies. The "J" connects to the pedal rod bellcrank and the end opposite the J's threaded section is reverse threaded, with an open hole for soldering each cable. (1/16 wire rope).
Standard threaded units won't work because they won't expand and contract to set the tension on the cables. Nobody makes tat part as a standard item nowadays I think Leo originally had his made by his local tooling outfit, Olmstead & Race.
Those I know hat really wanted them to look stock had the parts made by local machine shops.
But most have just used off-the-shelf .79 turnbuckles forma local hardware store. they work just as good. Sneaky used them on his guitar as well. _________________ No chops, but great tone
