Part 1 with a lot more to come. The Incredible Bob Schaefer accompanying himself on his 14 string Eharp. Bob played a 14 String Sierra with 8 pedals and 5 knee levers, as well as the traditional 10 string Eharp. Tuning: A E C# E F F# G G# A B C# E F# G#
Just check out the range of music he played. what you are hearing is only Bob and only the Eharp. There are some clunkers now and then, but these were never meant to be professionally produced tapes.

In the other thread, I provided Bob's bio. Bob was not a professional musician and hadn't played in public since 1960. He recorded these cassettes for his friends, and in my research, I've only found one person who still had them.
To me this is like uncovering an entire new world. These pieces, on first listen, sound strange. Bob's playing and arrangements are like nothing I'd ever heard before. And the fact that the Eharp doesn't sound like the 6ths, 7ths, and 9ths we are used to hearing, it takes the ears time to adjust. It takes awhile to get your bearings.
But on repeated listening, the true genius (warts and all) begin to reveal themselves. Being able to expose these recordings to a wider audience is an honor.
I hope you will take the time to really examine these recordings: a man, alone in his room, spinning out tune after tune to a few select group of friends and fans around the world. It is my pleasure to present them to a larger world |
