Like so many steel players, I always loved Lloyd Green’s solo on Alan Jackson’s “Remember When,†so as I put an arrangement together, I thought of the pedal steel. An instrumental lacks the “words,†so I decided to abridge the tune but keep the song’s three keys. To add some different sounds, I got out my old Dobro, actually my first slide guitar from the 1970s. My friend, recording engineer John Hensch, sent me a great MXL microphone, and I blended the mic’s signal with the Dobro's old pickup (very high end) and panned them a bit, adding a touch of reverb to the mix. I like the 2018 Band in a Box’s instrument samples and used them to create the backing track.
Hope you enjoy the arrangement.
