I was wondering, besides the normal places to oil, what other places should a PP be lubed? I'm thinking mainly on the underside.
Usual places:
Between Changer fingers
Nut rollers
Pedal rod attachments points
?
?
Mine's starting to seem a little dry.

I lube the bellcrank swivel "buttons" the part is held onto the bellcrank with a spring ring...Also a shot at the end of each cross shaft couldn't hurt. Whenever I have a cross shaft out, I usually check the spring, and add a ball bearing (if not already there), then pack with grease or WTG (white teflon goop). Also lube cross shafts where bracket mounted. |

Mike, by now most of the grease in the cross shafts has hardened and a small amount of lubricant should be applied to the cross shaft ends and bushings in front apron and rear apron mounts. I say small amount because you don't want to over oil and in time saturate the wood with oil which can cause the mica to turn loose or damage a lacquer finish. John, it appears we were helping Mike at the same time. All good advise. [This message was edited by Jerry Roller on 15 December 2005 at 11:14 AM.] |

I said this in another post but....using ANY kind of oil is going to screw up the works. Try using some silicone as it won't retain dirt and other buildup. There are other products, but silicone can be had at just about anywhere and cost is minimal!! |

On my P/P, the changer and rollers get 3 in 1 oil. I prefer the thicker 3 in 1 oil than gun oil, seems to stay put better. I greased the cross shafts the only time I had them out with white grease, and the rest of the undercarriage was sprayed with silicone lubricant where there was metal on metal. The silicone lube dries in seconds and is very, very slick. If your guitar has years of oily buildup on it, I don't recommend switching to silicone lube, it won't do anything. The good thing about silicone lube is that it doesn't attract dust or dirt so your pants stay clean.
The brand I use is called "Jigaloo", don't know if that's available in the US, but here there are a few different brands. It's main use is for windows and patio doors to make them easier to open and close. It's a great product.
