Hi forum friends! I'm trying to find out the best string gauges, my goal is switch back and fort from a regular G tuning (GBDGBD) to A6th (AC#EF#AC#). I usually play hawaiian style on a lap steel so I want to play this stuff also on the resonator.
I play on a Guild R-37E square neck dobro.
Any Ideas?

Thanks so much!

The standard bluegrass GBDGBD gages are 56 46 36 28 18 16. For AC#EF#AC# I'd suggest you look at the tensions from that set using D'Addario's

stringtensionpro.com

and build a set that doesn't exceed significantly exceed the GBDGBD tensions. I think you'll find the 18 a bit loose when dropped to A. A plain 26 isn't something I'd want to use. I'd probably start with 48 40 30 26 19 17 with the high two plain.

Thanks L. Bogue Sandberg!! Yes 26 Wound! I was wrong.. I tried 18 second string ,not too loose. The big problem is raise the bottom strings 1 step . I'll try with 48 and 40.

I was wondering if anyone has already tried to use G and A6th on the same guitar..

Hi Flavio,
I would be interested in doing the same thing. Right now I use C6th.
I hate posting like an idiot, but I think some folks have used a G set and then tuned to a version of A6th by changing the sequence of the strings to closer match the G tuning.
There's been a thread about it before somewhere..
