I agree. My MSA came with that same pickup, and I swapped it out for a George L. 5 position. Big improvement.

I took the original pickup apart, and used the windings for a wig for a hollowwen costume.

The MSA D10 I bought new in the late '70's had SuperSustain pickups, they weren't bad, and they were followed by the SuperSustain II which you have. I asked about them and even at the time I was told they weren't very good, I was told the previous SuperSustain (no II) were better. I never got a chance to really compare the two. I've heard a few other people say they think they're great, so who knows.

I have a 1970 MSA and absolutley still love the bell like tone from these pickups.... however my daughter has her grandmother's MSA, with the Super Sustain II, and in my opinion... if you could use them on some songs, and then swith back to a less "compressed" sound.... it would have made them more usuable. I'm leaving them on, to keep the guitar original, but then I'm not playing it either. If I were you, "I'd rather switch than fight" (sorry, old cig. ad Smile.
