Besides pricing, what is the big difference or any difference between Quilter's Steelaire and Steelaire Pro?
Thanks.

My review of the Pro model may provide some useful info for you:

Comments that I've seen are that the larger Pro cabinet may yield a bit louder bass response.

The amp chassis is a two space rack type "removeable" in the Pro model. You can take it out and use it as a standalone amp or even rack mount it if desired.

According to Quilter one of the reasons is many want to use the amp only direct in recording. Thus taking the amp chassis out and carrying it to a recording session is easier than the entire amp. I don't know if that is a valid reason considering what we steel players usually carry around.

Thank you for our responses. Im looking for something light weight and clear sounding, with power. The Nashville 400 and 1000 are a little heavy, especially going up stairs before the gig and even worse going back down afterwards.

I have a "two piece" amp. Steelaire Rack in a small 2 space rack case and a 15" Eminence EPS-15C in cabinet (speaker and cab weight is 23 lbs).

More pieces but lighter.

Both the Steelaire & Steelsire Pro are "lightweight & clear sounding, with power".

Two things.

1) producers and engineers hate extra sounds in a track. I know this because I am one (not an extra sound on a track but a record producer). So when a guitar player comes in with a combo amp from home I just have an inner 'groan' cuz I know there's going to be alllll kinds of rattling and shaking going on, that you won't notice live, but will drive me crazy when trying to mix out every time he hits an Eb and the entire box rattles. I have a noiseless cab of my own invention and make that is quieter than a church mouse. Most good engineers or producers have this I think. Or at least working towards this.

2) Makes it way more easier to mix and match stuff to your own choosing.

Hi Nick,
You can't go past a TELONICS TCA-500 for weight and power and sound also.
A great amp. I'm very happy with mine.
To quote somebody, I don't know who, "If it's good enough for Lloyd Green, it's good enough for me!".
My TELONICS TCA-500C weighs less than 29 lbs (13 Kg).
Super clean sound and 500w RMS.

Nick, read Greg’s review, some and I stress some Steelaire amps but not all, are way down on power, mine was, not much better than my 112. Tone was great but struggled when working with louder band. Desipite talking to Quilter, all they could say was crank it up( already was). Make sure you try it first to make sure you are getting a good one. I am back using my MB200.

Tell the sound guy to crank it up in the monitor Smile or tell drummer to play softer? I just did a festival yesterday with full band, the works, I had the steelaire volume on 5 with the gain around the same and I was easily the loudest onstage.

I tracked steel, Friday, and the first time I used the Steelaire Rack. Went direct to my MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid. Great sound. Later I did a comparison by micing my speaker with an SM57 and very little difference - not enough to not go direct.

Patrick, there seems to be a problem with some Steelaires, there are a few of us on the forum who seem to have ones that suffer from much lower volumes than the really loud ones ( mine was running on Chanel 1+2 gain at 9 , and master at 10) still struggled to cut through mix.At break changed to my back up, MB200,and hey presto all good. I have spoken to Pat Quilter, he did say he should have made input gain higher, but no real solution to problem, all he could offer was “Crank it up” , don’t think it could have gone higher, lots of white noise at that setting. The tone of the amp is great, just a lack of volume, so not impressed with customer service, and recommend that anyone buying one try it first, I did not have that luxury being in UK. Now back using my MB200, not as good a tone but bags of power.

I had couple Steelaire combo amps, and sold both because I couldn't get the tone I want... few weeks ago I bought a Stelaire Pro model, and it knocked my socks off tone wise, my MCI sounded awesome through that amp, so much so that I decided to take both, amp and a MCI with me to Europe and leave it there to do my live gigs and studio sessions...
