Where there's a will there's a way!
I needed a basic Lap Steel to learn on, wanted to eliminate anything distracting, so basic is the intent. I was in process of building one, then this refinished Champ came along, got it fairly inexpensively because the tuner buttons were broken. Took it home, wanted to try it out, don't have the replacement buttons, so I got into the drawer of old amplifier knobs. Drilled an 1/8" one out, the rest were standard 1/4" ones, put layers of shrink tubing on the shafts until they just fit, tightened up the screws, it worked! Restrung it with some strings I had, tuned to C6, sounds great, too bad I can't play it yet, starting lessons this week! |
