I just bought a GFI keyless (because of the weight) and am going to sell my 1975 Rus-ler D10 5X9. It was the first guitar made by Russ, but made mostly from ZB parts, where he was apparently working at the time. It's in good condition. Just had the legs re-chromed and the Knee levers re-faced. It has some scratches and could use a re-lacquer, but sounds great.
Any suggestions on a price I should ask? It does have some sentimental value, but I just don't have a lot of extra space in my home for it right now.

Danny,
Talk about sentimental value. If I lived in Fullerton CA like you, I'd be owning 3 or 4 vintage Fender's

Danny- I knew Russ Russell and been to his home a few times, when l lived in Phoenix in the 70's.

He built me a S12 rus-Ler with 10 pedals and 7 knee levers. It was beautiful and had a great sound. A picture of it is on my Website.

After all he did work at ZB and they all had a great sound.I had one of those too.

It was a heavy guitar but well built, top grade all the way. You should keep it if you can.
Russ was a nice guy and always willing to help, Bless his soul....al

Al, Thanks for the input. I'd love to keep the guitar; it would only collect dust and be in the way. I only play a few gigs a year and don't have a lot of extra space.
By the way, do you remember any steel players in Phoenix while you were playing there? There was a man named Ivan that played at Mr. Lucky's in the 70s; he seemed like a good player to me. Mike Stuart also played at about the same time. He was also very good.
My father played part time in Phoenix in the mid 70s but was becoming proficient at the pedal steel. I inherited this guitar from him when he died in 77'.
Thanks, Danny

Danny, just noticed this while reading about the Russ-ler. I lived in Scottsdale in the late 60's--wasn't Mr. Lucky's on the southeast edge of town near Mesa? I lived nearby and remember that name on a large sign-- =local Hot Spot...maybe not? Hmmm. Used to see Johnny Rivers on the billboard alot.

Danny-I remember Mr.lucky's.
I am not sure about the name(I am sorry I forgot) but the Steel player I got to know there was teaching at Arizona Music Center and he had a ZB played it in D9 instead of E9. Didn't have to worry about the high string breaking(F#). He was very good, but I heard that he passed away several years ago.
Joey-Mr.Lucky's was on the Northwest side of Phoenix. You probably mean "Waylon Jennings" place on Scottsdale Road...al
