This one has me perplexed.

I've got E's on my left knees. I cannot tune my 8 string lower when my raise is tuned, and vice versa.

When my raise is at pitch I'm probably 50 cents high on my lower. I can get it a bit closer, but, not much.

Needless to say, I've been staring at this for a while and no joy.

It's a 77 MSA classic.

Thanks in advance.

OK...OK

It's fixed.

Some kind of coupler on the _raise_ rod, butting against the changer. It looks like it might be there to prohibit excess travel for the knee?? Dunno. It was so close to the changer that activating the lower would push the raise as well.

Well...That only took 2 hours...

Howard, that little collar ("coupler", you called it) merely prevents the pull rod from poking out of the end plate of the guitar when you "fold up" the left-moving knee levers.

Thanks guys..

As I review the events of the day...It all started when I was tuning the changes after replacing strings. The raise rod was turning in the bell crank. I'm now sure the rod placement slipped, with the collar, and jammed againest the changer.

Shoulda figured it out in 10 minutes..

BTW...Donny thanks again for the big nuts

Hi Howard,

I played with Mike Auldridge at the Birchmere on Monday and he told me you were doing well with my old guitar. Glad to hear that the old girl is still making music.

Hey Jeremy...

Absolutely, It may look like it's played every honky tonk on the east coast, but, it sounds great. The occasional collar will slip and/or a screw will fall out, but, what the heck.

I do lust after something weighing about 40lbs. though.

Seriously, this guitar taught me a lot! Couldn't have wished for a better starter.

Mike tell you that the guitar, in case, crashed into his leg while he was helping me drag it down steps to his basement??

We kid each other now...It didn't seem funny at the time.....

Cheers
