There are a number of programs that are said to convert scanned sheet music into playable midi files. I have tried the trial versions of several plus an old version if Finale.

In some, .tif files can be scanned and in others .pdf. Has anyone done this successfully? So far I haven't been able to get it to work. The files get rejected even when they are in the right format and the scan looks perfect. There must be a tick to getting the scan just right. Does anyone know what it is?

There exists software that allows printing to a PDF. I use a package called doPDF for this.
