Hello,
I have a MSA Classic, it's a beautifull guitar but the current copedent seems to mainly function for the C6 neck.
So, i'm going to have to change some parts, longer crossbars and remove some bell cranks.
My question, do i have to remove the plate showed in the picture? The plate is also attached to the changer.
When i'd unscrew this the changer will loose all of it's tension, won't it? I see no other way to get to them however.
Do i miss something here? Am i too afraid?
Please help, what is the way to do this?
Thanks in advance,
Michell

Hi Michell,
No, you don't want to remove the plate. Just loosen all bellcranks on a crossbar and then you can slide the crossbar out through the plate.
I might suggest making a rodding chart before you start removing anything. Then decide on the copedent you want to use. There are a lot of examples of copedents on the forum.
Hope this helps you get started. It can be a big job and will take quite a bit of trial and error to get everything set up correctly.

Looks like the rear plate has already been removed! Just remove the pull rods, and that will let you access the screws holding the pullers. Loosen those, and then just slide the shaft out the rear. (Reverse these steps to reassemble.)
Note: I removed the rear plate, and just left it off to save weight. (It's not required, structurally.) If you like the look of the plate, put it back on. Or...if you still want to save some weight, but look nice, just fab one out of 1/4" wood and paint it silver. |

Your picture shows the actual back frame bar. The 2 threaded holes near the left end plate and the 2 threaded holes about 2 inches left of the exposed acorn nut are the threaded holes the screws that attach the cover plate to the steel. Some one has already removed the cover plate. Good Luck and Happy Steelin. |

Thanks a lot, with all your help i will succeed😀
I forgot to tell you that i removed that endplate, thén had no clue what'd be next.
I actually never thougt about removing the cross shafts the way you guys explained here. Now it seems so logical. There's a few things i can do now but i will need some parts to have it fully functional.
I will now decide which parts exactly i need, then order them from PSG parts.
Thanks again,
Michell |
