Well, here's a beautiful sculpted violin shape from some Nashville builder  I think just about every lap steel that you've built is a unique work of art. Hopefully someday I'll be more than just a tire kicker!

I really like that design too, Jouni. I think the assymetrical art deco stairstep body must have been borrowed from the National Triplex:

Love them because they look different than anything I had seen but obviously there is a nod to the past in all three.....sometimes a far away nod.
Tom, of course, worked his special brand of symmetrical magic with wood and metal that tell a complete visual story.
Tonally, in the FPS and Shovelhead, we went with disparate pups to make a vast palette for sounds. In the JYD, Tom built his own 8-string pups and had them wound by Bryan Gunsher (BG Pups). Tom went with Alnico 3 magnets in bridge and neck pups.
Lastly, I have his Southern Belle, a definite nod to the bell shape and stereotypical Asher style steel. Beautiful woods with plates and a great combo of disparate pups with a smooth Tele SC style in the neck and vintage P90 in the bridge.

Crap....I think his pics in his posts fell-off because his Photobucket account was/temporarily out of whack as he died January 2017. Don't know how to straighten that out and maybe it can't be taken care of. Hmmmmmmmmm...........

Those are all too pretty, I have pretty things too. lets rough things up a bit, my Matchless 500. I should really grow a big beard, get some Tattoos and wear a Bomber Helmet with this. Here is what it sounds like :-

Since you posted a pic of it, I'm really keen on the idea of the Traveler UltraLight adapted for steel guitar, actually. If you took their headless design that has the strings wrap around to those inset body tuning machines, with a 22" scale, a nice humbucker or something similar, a thicker neck, and maybe even (to dream a dream) 8 strings, you'd have an amazingly short but quite decent and respectable lap steel. One that could probably easily fit diagonally into a bit of luggage! I recently took my 20.5" scale Morrell lapsteel (that has a full headstock) in just such a way to Florida, stuck diagonally in a suitcase.
Note, just sort of a wishlist, I'm not necessarily got the funds to commission such a thing burning holes in my pockets!

For six strings, my favorites are probably just the guitar-shaped steels like EH-150, Ric Bakelite, etc. but you have to admit Jason Dumont's Bel Air is unique.

Johnie, thank you for your kind words, the Guitar body is made from one half of a 1939 Matchless Motorcycle Crankcase I bought from FleaBay for that very purpose, it is a Baritone tuning with very thick gauge string as you can see and hear. I do things like this to pass my retirement and have fun from my music. Since I play mainly slow, sad, emotional types of music, the Plugs get clogged up very often with Tears and Laments which can cause miss-fires.

I like the traditional guitar body shape with the upward pointing tuners. That combination has always been my favorite. My J.R. Burns S-8 is example of my taste.

I prefer the guitar body shaped guitars. I really don't care for the modern art style bodies.
